With the increase in plastics and other man-made materials, there has been an increase in recycling codes for plastic. There are many different kinds of plastics with many different uses. Some, such as PET bottles, are recyclable while others are not. This is because not all plastics are easily recycled. The seven main categories of plastic are:

High-Density Polyethene (HDPE) – Also known as polyvinyl chloride or PVC. This plastic is recyclable under certain conditions. It has limited uses and is mixed with other materials. If the plastic number is higher than 7, it is a High-density Polyethylene (HDPE) that cannot be recycled. This group includes polypropylene, polystyrene and polyurethane.

Low-Density Polypropylene – Also known as low-density polyethene, or LDPE. This plastic is widely used in making toys and is also popularly known as polyvinyl chloride. It is recyclable when mixed with other materials. The different types of plastics in this group include polypropylene, polystyrene, polyacrylate and polyvinyl chloride.

High-Density Polystyrene – Also known as HPPE. It can be recycled when melted and blended with other materials. This group includes polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylate and polyvinyl ester. To make HPPE, an alkyl chain is formed which is then linked together with phosphorus.

Water bottles – This refers to a class of plastics, which are made from a resin material. There are many different types of recycled plastic, which are used in making water bottles. One such example includes water bottles made from polycarbonate, which is a solid form of soda. Water bottles are recyclable when they are broken down. However, some water bottles may have their necks split to accommodate different kinds of a bottleneck.

Plastic Combinations – This refers to a group of plastics that are produced through a process that involves combining two or more similar but dissimilar plastics in order to create one new product. Recycled plastics in this group include polystyrene and polyurethane. They can be combined through an aqueous solution which is used to injection mould plastic. Once the mould has been formed, it is removed by the use of high pressure. These recycled plastics are then separated out into their various components according to the sex codes.

Bottles and cups – These are just two of the many different types of containers used to contain liquids. A great deal of plastic waste is produced by people who reuse bottles to hold dry foods like tea and coffee. Many manufacturers have taken steps to change these types of wasteful practices through the use of the appropriate symbol on their products. The symbol that is used for plastics is usually a set code.

CDH – This stands for Constant Charge Hybrid. It is a type of polymer compound made out of various polymer chains. It has been developed as a substitute for certain oils and petroleum derivatives that cannot be recycled into usable materials.

Polypropylene Disposable – This is a generic term given to the containers that contain plastic and polypropylene strands marked with a SPID code. The number corresponds to the number of plastic materials that have been used in the manufacturing of the product. When such a container is disposed of, it is usually marked with an SPK number.

CDH Plastic – This symbol refers to Constant Charge Hybrid. It is another kind of polymer compound made from various polymers that are commonly used in the production of CDH plastics. One notable feature of this particular plastic is that it is recyclable. It is manufactured through a combination of acetone and carbon dioxide gasses.

CVP – This is another symbol used for CDH plastics. It stands for Coupled Plasma. These are high-density polyethene fibres that are fused together at very high temperatures. These fibres are then cooled in order to create a thermosetting agent. After this process, it is now ready to be reprocessed into plastic.
