E-Waste or Electronic Waste is generated from devices that do not work anymore, have become outdated. When these electronic devices are thrown away incorrectly, they cause a lot of pollution by releasing toxic materials into the air. We can prevent this if we find a way of re-using these devices or some parts of the devices which are still functional. This is basically a general idea of what E-Waste Recycling is. E-Waste Recycling recovers parts of the device that can be used in the manufacturing of new devices. All devices like laptops, computers, refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves cause e-waste and can be recycled to prevent it.

One of the primary reasons that cause E-Waste is the constant production of newer devices even though the older ones work just as fine. Companies produce millions of new devices every year that are just slightly different from the older ones. 

We tend to buy new devices on the consumer part even though our old devices are still functioning. This causes a lot of e-waste. When you buy a new smartphone even though your current phone works, you are generating e-waste. You might think, how much e-waste could you as an individual possibly generate? Well, not much. But you aren’t alone. There are a million other people who think that their waste is not affecting the overall e-waste generation. If we need to change and reduce e-waste, we have to begin taking care from an individual level. 

E-Waste Recycling – The Effect of E-Waste

A lot of chemicals are emitted when e-waste is broken. Toxic metals such as lead, arsenic, and cadmium are let out on the soil when e-waste is dumped incorrectly. If this e-waste is dumped anywhere near farms where food is produced, humans will consume these harmful toxins, which can be hazardous. Improper disposal of e-waste also pollutes the groundwater, which is a significant source of drinking water. The groundwater also releases into streams and lakes, which are the only sources of water for animals. 

Furthermore, the incarnation of e-waste can release very harmful chemicals in the air. It raises global warming, and the intake of such toxic air can also cause many health issues in both humans and animals. 

What Can You Do To reduce E-waste?

Do not buy a new electronic device until and unless the old one is functioning. Only buy a new one when your old device is wholly broken, cannot be fixed. 

Do not dump your broken devices in the trash, or don’t just throw them anywhere. 

If the product is still functioning, try to resell it. 

Recycle old devices. Find an authentic recycler and get the old device recycled responsibly. 

Conclusion

A few steps taken by all of us can drastically decrease the amount of e-waste caused currently. Reduced e-waste will result in less air, water, and soil pollution, reduce the usage of minerals that take a lot of time to renew. E-Waste Recycling will also generate lots of jobs and save huge capital spent every year on new materials.
