Cardboard Recycling: How It Is Done And Advantages

You must have seen corrugated boxes that they use for shipping, transportation, and storing products. Artists also use these paper-based materials as original material for sculpting. These materials are cardboard. They are exceptionally thick and possess superior durability and other attributes such as foldability, rigidity, etc. It is entirely recyclable, that is why most of the companies prefer to use them to reduce the extra cost.

Cardboard recycling is the process of recycling the thick sheet of papers which are no longer in use, and to make them fit for reuse by re-processing.
There are various processes through which cardboard recycling takes place, after that the recycled waste can be used again.

Process Involved In Cardboard Recycling

Collecting: In this process collection of waste cardboard takes place which is no longer in use and sent to recycling facilities. Waste cardboards are available in bins, homes, etc.

Sorting: Sorting is the process of separating cardboards made up of different materials. It also helps paper mills to manufacture cardboard of different grades.

Shredding And Pulping: Shredding helps in breaking the cardboard fiber into tiny pieces. The resultant mixture with the help of specific chemicals turns into a slurry. This process is pulping. The resulting material after pulping solidifies is a new pulp.

Filtering And De-Inking: The pulp formed passes through the filtering process to remove all the foreign elements and impurities. Centrifugation removes solid impurities. The next process is de-inking, which involves putting the pulp in the floatation device, which eliminates dyes or inks by a series of the filtering process. The paste is now ready for the final stage of processing.

Finish And Reuse: The resulting pulp combines with new production substances. The blend dries on a flat conveyor belt while passing through an automated machine. that removes excess water by pressure and promotes the formation of a solid sheet called liner-boards. They combine many linerboards layer by layer that results in a new piece of cardboard, which they use for commercial purposes thereafter.

Advantages Of Recycling

There are various advantages of cardboard recycling, both economic and environmental. The recycling board is economically useful because it reduces the extra costs of packaging and transportation. It is lightweight and easy to handle. In addition to that, it is an excellent material for the protection of goods in transit.

Most importantly cardboard recycling helps to reduce the extra waste and landfills, which improves the cleanliness of the environment. They are biodegradable, thus reducing environmental footprints. The process of producing corrugated papers requires a lot of energy, which easily gets minimized to a great extent when recycling of the locally available waste materials takes place.
We should recycle the used cardboards because it helps our planet in many ways by contributing to the environment. It helps in reducing the less cutting of trees. Cardboard recycling is the best example of the 3-R process that is – reduce, reuse, and recycle. We must promote the use of recycled products which will positively help our environment.
